4.3 Volvo timing

I have a 97 Scarab with a Volvo 4.3 Jet Drive. Is there any way to set the timing without going to a dealer or getting any special tools other than a timing light? The distributor cap has the male connections on the cap.

Hard to say, what is the FULL model number of your engine. Include all 5 to 7 letters after the 4.3
