Any have experience with 4.3 V6 Volvo Pinta engines with OMC Cobra outdrives. I am considering buying a 1988 Marathon with the above mentioned setup. I know that Marathon boats went heels up a few years ago but the hull I am looking at buying is in pretty good shape. I only have experience with Mercruisers and Chevy engines. Good and bad comments welcomed.

If Volvo Penta has there name on the side of the OMC outdrive, then you will still be able to buy parts for it in the future. With other older "OMC" only outdrives; when the dealer only parts are gone, that's it!

Thanks for the info Mike. OMC is stamped on the back upper section of outdrive. Any advice on the V6 engine?

Re: 4.3 Volvo Pinta V6 Inboard?

Volvo uses a GM 4.3L V6 engine block with Volvo's own ignition. The reputation is that this is a very reliable engine. My only gripe with Volvo is that 99% of the marinas in my area service and sell Mercury, so my parts/service options are more limited. Before buying this boat I would see where the local service centers are located. Pay special attention to that OMC outdrive. Volvo bought out OMC, but that doesn't mean the OMC outdrive parts are available.
