I just replaced the motor in my boat and I had it running great on the muffs at the house. We went to the lake today and before I got off the trailer I started it and it started acting up won't idle unless you throttle up but you could tell it wasn't hitting on every cylinder. So we came home and I hooked it back up on muffs and it stared and idled great, then all of a sudden it just sounds like it missed then died. Start back up and it misfires agian and smooths out and runs fine. Any input would be appreciated sorry for the long post.

Check that you are getting fuel to the carb. That's an all new delivery system. I'd be tempted to pull the carb top off and check float level. What you describe sounds like not enough fuel in the carb.

In addition to the above. Check all your electrical grounds, including the grounding wire on the distributor. Check the plug leads are on the plugs properly. Check to see that the choke is coming off properly, and staying off.

The old block was busted from freezeing. I don't see any signs of water in the carburetor. I did reuse the old plugs and wires that came out of the old motor, they seemed to be in good shape but I guess that could be the problem.

I also forgot to mention that I could pump the throttle and it would start at the lake but run real rough and didn't would like it was hitting on all cylinders. And it would pop/ backfire real bad.

The gas is the same gas that was in it from the end of last year when the previous owner run it and the boat set outside till I bought it 3 months ago. The gas gauge was on full and we stopped and put around 4 gallons of new gas in it till the pump shut off.
