My new 4.3[190hp] mercruiser diesels when turning off. Mercurys' fix is new plugs and 140 degree thermostat. This kind of defeats the advantages of fresh water cooling. Looking for a better fix.

I am just curious as to what kind of plugs they told you to put in your diesel? And what ever problems you are having is due to the fact that you put diesel in your gas motor.

Re: 4.3 mercruiser diesels

from my experience dieseling at shutoff of the engine can occur if,
1 the motor is hot
2 carbon build up on valves and combustion chamber causing glow plug effect,
3 no va***e advance at the distributor,
[ either seized or not fitted ]
4 no solenoid on carb throttle to close throttles completely at engine shutoff,
5 often a combination of the above,
generaly fuel still getting into the motor readily is the problem via wide throttle opening at the idle position, no va***e advance often requires wider throttle open to get suitable idle speed.
