Guys, i need help....can you find this timing cover?
I have a '93-94 4.3 merc engine (LX i think, the 180 hp) engine (but its in a 1997 boat..which is odd)
Apparently someone installed the wrong timing cover which is why its leaking oil - the current installed is plastic but apparently i need the metal one for the 93-94
part is said to be 824322 but it cannot be found anywhere
More details below as to why, but that is the jist
how the hell do i find the right timing cover for this engine :*(

My boat has been leaking oil, small drips, a "boat mechanic" "fixed it" 3 years ago, but it still dripped after he worked on it for months.
Fast forward to recent, the drip is worse, so i took it to a certified shop - they have it all taken apart BUT! they cannot get a timing cover for the boat :(
So, i'm stuck w/ no boat and the engine that can't be put back together

Ok, that might make it easier to find - anyway you can help me find the part so i can order it? dealer is saying the engine from 93-94 is marine only engine, not the truck engine - but would love to find the part for him

i'm being told the "number that is on the block is" 10224535
if you can find this part, i'll be forever in your debt

alot of reading that engine is marine engine, w/ the balancer on front..so might not be normal truck engine? :(

96-97 shows the plastic cover, prior to that they all used steel timing covers with the same part number

Interesting Bt Doctur that the Merc p/n is different on that vintage (pre vortec balance shaft) than before or after. GM pn is the same until vortec. I checked 89-94 Astros...
also OP that timing cover should be reusable with replaceable cover gasket and crank seal, but easier and cheaper to buy the whole assembly. That link didn't look like it includes either.

Thank you BT,does he have a link to buy?
Also BT and Rick....(rick yours is a 92 and i think the engine block changed in 93)
My worry here, is the harmonic balancer that needs to be mounted to it, or with it i think and i think that is the worry on the dumb 93 engine, that i'm being told

you are way over-thinking it.

the pic you show is for a 1996 or later

you need a timing cover for a 93-95 motor with a balance shaft.

they are about $20 new as stamped steel, a little more if you buy it from your local GM dealer in the cast aluminum with the crank trigger sensor (about $30)

remember, the base motor comes from GM. same motor that gets put into fork trucks and trash pumps (without the crank sensor) .

Sorry if that is true, the pic i'm showing on the left is for 93-94 and has the correct part number (the oblong shape, not the more cirlced shape) i think i'm over thinking because the certified boat mechanic has tried 4 different covers :(

and when i look at the exact part i need for a 93-94 engine the top is egg shaped, not ball circle round - which is the worry it might not fit
