4.3 merc cutting out under load

Hello,<br />I'm new to this forum and boating. I have a 1988 searay seville 19 ft with a 4.3 merc. The motor cuts out when you give it gas and dies, it will also do this at full speed just die than take off again. It doesn't seem to do it when the tank is full. I have changed the fuel filter and gas is going in the carb. tonight I had to be towed home. Any help would be fantastic.Boat will start and idle sometimes the problem has gotton worse<br /><br />hardwarp

When was the last time it had a complete tuneup done. Points, condenser, plugs, cap, rotor, set dwell, set timing, check advance timing, adjust carb mixture, set idle speed, change fuel filters, check for water in filters.

everything but fuel filters. I have done the one at the carb where are the others?

hardwarp, my engine is doing the same thing. Did you find the problem?

Don't forget accelerator pump.

I second that accelerator pump post. It sure sounds like that could be the issue. With the engine off, pump the throttle while someone looks inside the carb. He/she should see streams of gas shoot into the throat. If not, you probably have a bad pump or blocked pump passage in the carb.
