I have a 1997 searay with a 4.3lx and am trying to diagnose the cause of a nonstart issue. It will sporadically not turn over after being turned off - no reposnse when ignition is turned- totally dead. If the 10amp fuse is pulled and replaced or if the same fuse is put back, it starts right up. Only happens after it is run for awhile. ignition has been replaced but the problem continues. Even less frequently - the engine power drops momentrily and than kicks back in when cruising. I am not sure if these are related.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Most likely causes are corroded wirin' ends at the battery, starter, solenoids, or the Grounds,...

Have to agree with Bondo. Start at the battery and start cleaning all the connection. Should be shiny bare metal when you're done.

I assume you're referring to the fuse in the keyswitch harness, under the dash. If so, have a look for corrosion on the fuse holders. If it's the old glass 3AG fuse, 3ag Fuse.PNG then I suggest you replace it with a 15A blade fuse and holder.

One like this.......... blade fuse.PNG

Thanks- I'll check for corrosion at all connections and fuse next time I'm at the lake. Thanks for the suggestions...
