4.3 lx alpha 1 stern drive oil with reservoir

According to the manual the qty says 32 oz without res.<br />64 oz with. (sounds exccesive)<br /><br />When draining i assume you remove lower plug then vent and reservoir will drain.<br /><br />Filling from lower plug untill it reaches upper level.<br />Do you fill reservoir up to level before upper level plug replacement?<br />Is it possible to overfill?

The service manual says exactly how to fill it, do you have an Alpha I or an Alpha I Gen II. You don't indicate that or what year your engine and drive are.<br />Here's a link to an owners manual that tells how to fill a Gen II drive properly. See pages 48 and 49.<br /><br /> Owners Manual

Many thanks<br />generation ? how do you tell<br />stern unit is circa 93 with the engine being <br />2001<br />page 40 of alpha one v6 1993 publication<br /> 90-821071940 <br />actually says 39.2 oz for drive unit<br />64 for drive with reservoir <br />your manual says (page 43) 64oz<br />basically i assume the reservoir is merely to monitor & will approx hold the difference between 64 & 39 fl oz.<br />thanks again
