While winterizing the motors we noticed that the hoses for the hot water system did not get hot,
we were concerned that we would still have water in the exchanger for the hot water tank so we disconnected the hoses and blew it out.
What is the proper hook up for the heater hoses?

Engine with raw water cooling do not get water circulated properly when only run for a few minutes. They must be under load to keep the thermostat open and the water circulating. It just won't happen on muffs.
Air won't freeze.

Thanks Don, This is our first season and we are learning,
On the water pump just above the large hose that goes to the t stat there is a brass fitting with a hose that runs to the hot water tank, the returning hose goes back into the water pump on the top same style brass fitting.
If this is correct you are saying that at cruising speed 3000rpm (in our case) we should be getting the water heated in our hot water system?

The flow of water from the engine, through the water heater and back is just a simple loop. Once the engine is at operating temps, there is hot water flowing through the lines to the water heater and back. This is a seperate "coil" of tubing in the water heater that doesn't have a direction to it. Once the engine is at temperature, it will take several minutes (up to half an hour) for this flow of water through the water heater to actually heat the water in the heater tank (6 gallons or so).
