Hi all,
Just bought a 2007 Stingray 195LS with a chevy v-6 4.3 GXI. Does someone have a list of fluids/filters either OEM or Aftermarket? I've looked all over for a one pager, but have not been able to find one. Thank you in advance

  1. Engine Oil
  2. Oil Filter
  3. Fuel Filter
  4. Power Steering Fluid / type / weight

Either way. This is a fantastic UK based source of parts for these things. Type in “gxi” in the search box when you find out what model it is. Then use this as a source of part numbers. Then search local suppliers to you or eBay. You won’t have an issue getting parts for it. It’s a very common engine. I’d advise you to change often the diz cap and rotor or at least keep a spare. These also call for at least platinum plugs and preferably iridium. Not cheap but last a few years

20W50 oil
Wixx filter

For the trim fluid. SAE 30 if the existing fluid is brown. ATF if the existing fluid is red

Lots of variety in recommendations for oil spec, as always Scott eh. The usual and age old source of confusion still remains between VP and mercs stated oil spec…for what we all know is an identical shared engine. VP will often state 30w, 10w40 or 15w40 for these. Merc will say 25w40 to try and secure their quicksilver sales.

You can also use the Merc 25/40 oil if it's available and not too expensive. Lucas also makes a heavy duty Marine 20/50 but it is as expensive as the Merc stuff and harder to find. The oil filter, it depends on if you have the standard mount way in the back of the engine (port side) or if you have a remote mount that is on the exhaust elbow. I have heard people say to stick with the Volvo gear oil for the outdrive due to the cone clutch, but Merc High Performance Gear Lube is recommended for Bravo drives which also use a cone clutch.

20W50 is more common than the 15W40. hence the recommendation

20/50 is becoming scarce around here, but 15/40 is pretty common because it is dual certified for gas and diesel.
I am curious about the Lucas 20/50 Marine and also Valvoline VR-1 20/50, both might be good choices if you run hard often.

4.3 GXI-G

And thanks for the recommendations. A local shop in Phoenix as part of their maintenance package use conventional 20/50, Valvoline or Castrol. Based on our climate.

Steering fluid is brown. i'll stay with that.

Oil filter is mounted front/top, port side next to manifold.

Appreciate the tip on the plugs, diz cap, and rotor.

For the diz cap/rotor, can if just purchase from Napa instead of a OEM VP $$$$?

You need a quality marine cap and wires

Automotive wires are too short
