4.3 Gen LX Fuel Issue....wont start

Hi there.....

the boat has been sittin for a year and a half....(damn lady didnt use it before she sold it....)

The old fuel pump is bad and already got a new one....(i think it was gummed up and seized....it did nothing when hooked up to a battery)

I Have spark

the boat has run fine .....ive been on the water 5times since I bought it

the new pump...works, I have TEMPORARILY bypassed the oil pressure switch to make sure it ran.

I seem to get fuel up to the carb while running out of an aux test tank.....but then when I connect the line to the carb.....NO START

It also doesnt start when it is hooked up to the fuel tank.

I blew thru the lines going from the tank to the carb, and they are clear.....I blew thru the line INTO the gas tank and I can blow bubbles (i can hear it in the tank)....which made me think that it is not clogged.

Now, any ideas? my next step is to pull the carb apart, and or try and get further into the tank, I had troubles with that though, as I couldnt seem to get the pickup line out of the tank after loosening the large nut on the elbow joint.....

IS this ALL from gummed up fuel???

For one thing, you shouldn't be able to blow back into the tank an hear bubbles. There is SUPPOSED to be an anti-siphon valve on the top of the pickup tube. Of course if it's leaking air or partially plugged, then it won't supply fuel to the pump.
The fuel pumps can also run, but not do anything if plugged or being fed air.
I would be looking at that pickup tube and antisiphon valve first.

Did you have it Hooked up to the Fuel Tank,..??..??
If Not,....
Hook it up,+ run a line into a container,+ See if it's pumping fuel.....
If it Is,......
Move on to the Carb......

ok, i will try that.....is that valve on top of the tank, or inside it?? I tried taking that out yesterday, but it seemed to be built into the tank.

so am i also correct in assuming that if i put the feed line (from the tank to the filter) into a gas can than it should run right??

Just to add, I tried to siphon the fuel out of my 1995 Bayliner through the supply line for the fuel pump, didn't work probably because of this valve in question. I ended up pulling the sending unit and siphoning through that hole. Just my 2 cents.. Good Luck.

ok....heres the latest....the boat is not running yet....mainly because its raining and I can finish it....but

I had a steady stream of fuel from the test tank to the carb and pumped it for awhile as it was disconnected from the carb.....so i pulled the carb apart....GUNK EVERYWHERE.....the float wouldnt even move without considerable effort considering how delicate it is.

anyway....pulled it all apart cleaned it up nice and about to put it back together...i think this may do it.

I am amazed how fuel can turn into such gunk and seize everything up.....DONT LET YOUR BOAT SIT i guess

If the carb was that bad, then it's called junk. Get a new one.
You will NEVER get one that corroded to work properly. All the passages are correded closed and will not clean up.

the carb was replaced a year ago....and it was not corroded, just a bunch of sludge...I have since cleaned it out and all the passages are clear, so well see what happens tomorrow

IT RUNS!!!! amazing what a clean carb will do.....thanks for all the help, I am now having another issue but will post that in a new thread...thanks
