Hello all,

I have installed new front mounts & a new engine coupler the rear mounts look to be in good shape so I left them as is the gimble bearing is also new.I had the engine adjusted so alignment tool went in & out with no binding I then turned engine 180 & tryed it again this time it went in & out much harder then I turn engine back to original spot & it goes in easy again so is this normal?everything is new and stringers are strong

sounds like the coupler isnt seating square on the crank end.shouldnt make any difference when you turn the motor.

Re: 4.3 engine alignment

It could also be a bad coupler from the manufacturer.
I have installed brand new couplers and brand new engine couplers on old (CLEAN) flywheels that turned out bad. Usually if the alignment bar can go in by hand and be pulled out without undue force, I just adjust between them and it's fine. But if after turning 180° you can't get the bar in by hand, it's either installed wrong, or the coupler is bad.

Re: 4.3 engine alignment

hello Don S Ime sure its installed right theres realy only one way it can go...or so I think so. When I get it aligned in one spot then turn the engine & it goes in harder I can still get it out & in by hand just much harder so you think I should just adjust between them & it will be ok.Ime looking to get this boat out on the water soon & this is the last thing holding me up.
Thanks,
Matt

Re: 4.3 engine alignment

Yes, just get middle of the road on the alignment and you should be fine. As long as you can put the bar in and pull it out by hand.
HOWEVER, when I get one like that, we note it on the workorder, and if we have problems down the line we can replace it under parts warranty from Merc. So you will have to make a judgement call on HOW hard the bar goes in. It may be that after you put a few hours on it, it will be fine and check out perfect all the way around.
