4.3 cam issues

i inherited a 1993 Glastron 195 Elite with a 4.3 Volvo Penta.

the manifolds are cracked and the engine run stuck with a rod out the side of the block.

i purchased a 1989 Chevy Blazer 4.3 as it had a recent short block rebuild. how much different is a camshaft from a Chevy Blazer to a 4.3 marine engine? am i going to have issues pulling skiers up without the camshaft change?

also, the volvo had a 4barrel holley. any known issues changing manifolds to the Blazer engine.?

do i need to purchase marine engine gaskets? didn't know you had to pay up to a left one for them.

Will in Minnesota

ps, on the Volo Penta web site, it indicates from 2000 to 2007 engines were red, mine is a red engine in a 1993. does this mean i have a newer intall and may run into other issues on the rebuild of engine and drive train? bell housing is red also.

Ayuh,... The Cam is a Non-issue,... The motor should bolt right in, 'n the carb/ intake should fit as well...
Not sure on the fuel pump boss,...

Just use good quality gaskets,... I like Fel-pro...

Donno 'bout the colors,... paint is cheap,... my motor is ole Cat Yellow...

Regarding the engine color, most, if not all, VP engines back then were red if they were not OMC/Cobra joint venture.

Early engines were red until 94 when Volvo and OMC went into the joint venture and the turned gray. In 98 Volvo bought out OMC completely and finished up with the gray parts they had left. Then in 2001 Volvo went back to red for all it's gas engines.

Can't tell you about the cam, don't have experience using automotive cams in marine engines, and you really can't put the Blazer in the truck or RV cam range.

Re: electronics

Use your old distributor as well as your old starter, alternator, water pump....

You also want to replace all the casting plugs(freeze plugs) with brass ones.

^+1

if your worried about your cam, pick up a new marine cam.

one thing to look out for, the 4.3 was available with and without a balance shaft from 1992 - 1997

you wont find a complete gasket set. you will find base gasket sets, head gaskets, intake gaskets, and exhaust gaskets.
