New to this forum any help please. I have a factory rebuilt 383 Stroker year 2011 (quicksilver). It has 200 hours on ECM. Purchased boat with this crate motor installed. Runs great with no problems with exception of smoke light blueish to white at idle.Once above 1000 RPM I believe no smoke or less visible. At cruise no visible sign of smoke off the water. I might do a few days at the lake say 10 hrs on motor and oil consumption will go from full mark to re fill mark on dip stick. Where do I start? Establish compression and leak down test? could it be valve guides? Concerned with only 200 hours on motor I purchased it at 180 hours. I have a Mercruiser scanner shows no signs of over speed no faults. Thanks

Most likely it's the cheap valve seals that were used

Howdy

That is a bummer, had a buddy with a factory rebuilt motor spin a bearing around 200 hours. Merc remans use to be quality, now its hit or miss with lowest bidder.

Loosing that much oil I would agree doing a compression test and leak down will tell you if its rings. If its not rings, then you can replace the valve seals without pulling the motor

If it's sticking rings you might get lucky by treating it with BG EPR. Engine performance restoration. You run it in the crankcase for 15 minutes then change the oil. It's supposed to clean up and desludge bottom ends, clean out ring lands.
