It's a family hand-me down thing. The old 73 Gulfstream 18 footer we are letting go to our Neice's family. My older sister bought a new Chapparell and have sold us their 93 Reinell 20 footer at a price I could not pass up. I have known this boat since it was new, it has been extremely well taken care of, low hours, and stored indoors. Looks almost new. The Chevy 350 is spotless and has been serviced yearly by the local dealer. But, it does have an OMC Cobra outdrive. We are very excited, just thought I would share some cell phone pics.

The old boat. Nephew new owner near stern and his daughter. They have spent alot of time on this boat and are so happy to be getting her. We are happy it will remain in the family and we will still get to see her on the water.

The "new to me" Reinell. My sister is happy that this boat will stay in the family too. I have read some "not so good" stories about the OMC on this forum. Anything I should be extra careful of or keep an eye out for?

Very nice. Congrats!

Is the Cobra drive by chance an 'SX Cobra'? From what I've learned here, if you have one of those you're golden- it's a Volvo SX.

Thank-you. I better go check. It is a 93 and I from what I have read, the non-Volvo OMC stopped production in 92. ?????

Well, if your old boat had an open bow I was going to mention you probably lost a bit of space, but since it was a closed-bow, you won't see the difference. Many of the older boat designs had a flared out bow section which gave more room for seating/leg room in the bow, whereas the new style is a sharp-v which normally means a small footwell.

It sure looks like the Volvo SX drive, so I bet you're okay.

I'm pretty sure that isn't a SX. :( The cutoff year was 94, so 93 should be the last of the older Cobras. Look on the top of the drive, if it has a hump, then it's the SX. If the raw water pump is mounted on the engine and belt driven (like an alternator), then it is an SX (like the Volvo).

I wouldn't worry about a well maintained Cobra (especially if the boat means that much to your family.) Besides, the early SX V8s I've seen, have Fords and they are obsolete in the marine field. If the drive starts giving you trouble, swap it out for a SEI.

That is a pretty boat!
