35hp lower unit

does anyone have a lower unit for a 1980 35hp seahorse I bought one on ebay it was advertised as a 1980 but when I got it it was a 1990 there appears to be no way to convert the shift linkage to work with an 80 I new this might happen by buying one unseen but I took the chance. thanks for any help
