35hp lower unit

I have a 1990 (I think) lower unit and I want to put it on my 1980 johnson everything looks identical except I dont have the removable fins down low to remove the shifting rod. Are they compatable and if so do I have to remove the motor to fasten the shifting rod on?

ReeseK....<br /><br />Could you post the model number of your 35. Not sure what you mean by "fins". Are you referring to the water intake screens that need to me removed to get the shift rod apart?

yes the intake fins that needed to be removed to gain access to the nut that holds the 2 piece shift rod together located on the lower unit itself

I am not sure if those cases are compatable. If not..we have a couple sitting here "Used" that will work. As long as you need a long shaft that is.<br /><br />TMD
