Unsure of year as yet, I will look for the #'s but doubt they are relevant for the problem.

We had it at about 3/4 throttle cruising last night, and it revved up, lost power and was making a sound similar to a backfire through the carb but through the exhaust instead. The water outlet was not pushing any water as well. Fortunatly I was no more than 100 yards from dock.

Cover pulled it obviously overheated a touch, though I have seen much worse. After letting it cool, checked the water inlets ect. I restarted it, same thing, the"wet" backfire sound like through a fat holly carb, only out the exhaust instead? I got it running, at idle and a touch above there was water flow from the outlet, a touch above and no water flow, and a bubbling from around the prop? Exhaust leaking through the water inlet??

So I am guessing, either I have a blown water pump/impeller? Or a blown head gasket? I am baffeled at the sound and the bubbling from the prop end. (I am not famliar with how all this works and it was in neutral) though it was prepped prior to putting into the lake.

So, any suggestions, any assistance, would be great, I have no problems working on this, I am just not so familiar with a 2 cycle and been learning them more so just this spring.

Thanks!

I'm guessing a blown head gasket. Try running a compression check. The cylinders should be within 10 percent of one another.
