350 MAG Running Temp?

I have a 350 MAG MPI with a Bravo One outdrive.
What should I expect my idle temp to be? What about running/wide open?
What temp triggers the temp alarm?
If I am only hooked up to a garden hose would that alter my temps or give me a false reading?
My thermostat is set for 165.

Ayuh,....

I would expect you to see anything from 165? to 180?....

I believe the Alarm goes off at about 200?....

Btw,....
If your having heating Issues,.... Change out the raw water Impeller 1st....

Re: 350 MAG Running Temp?

Thanks. The temp alarm is what started this whole temp issue.
Never had a problem before until my temp alarm went off last weekend.
Stat was good, so we checked out the impeller and it was shredded.
We took apart the entire cooling system and found all the little pieces and replaced the impeller.
In the driveway with the hose I am getting temps of 165 at idle, and 180 with the engine revved up, then quickly back down to 165 when we take it back down to idle.

Those numbers look good....................but the real test is under load. Also did you check the impeller housing for sings of heat damage??

Not sure how high you were revving up, but you aren't supposed to go too high above idle in the driveway from what I understand.. Just a word of caution :)

Temperatures sound good, but like limited-time said, get out on the water to test under load.

Did you have the plastic housing on your raw water pump? If so, I would bet it's grooved where the impeller rubs and not pumping very well.
180? sounds ok IF you were under a load, but I would be worried if it got that hot in neutral, unless you had weak water flow from the hose.
