350 Mag / Alpha One / Gen One Gimbal ring bearing seals

I have the SELOC Sterndrive book for Mercruiser. It’s telling me to install the lower gimbal ring bearing seals “Both” facing up. This doesn’t seem right to me. Between the seals is a needle bearing that has a Zerk fitting. The only thing I can think of is the bottom seal will act like a relief for the grease instead of popping a seal out.

You have a knee pad at best. A fire starter is what I call seloc. Toss it and get the factory manual.

So the factory manual says otherwise?
At the time this is all I could find. Wonder where I could get one.

I believe you need the #6 mercruiser manual For aphla 1 gen 1. Found mine used on eBay for $25.00

Well I did a search for the #6 manual and was able to find a free online one. Attached is a pic for those who care. It does require that both seals are oriented with the lips up. Thanks drivewayboater.
