Not sure if normal or I am working against motor at this point. no cables connected to motor. Put in "start" position. pull start action moves throttle towards "slow". The armature plate seems to move easily to this position so seems does throttle. Is there an adjustment for throttle advance "stiffness" ? This could have always been like this of course, but didn't notice till I did Points, coils, condensers, and plug wires. Also I assume that "slow" should mean "idle" and not kill.

You did a very common error, so we'll forgive you. You did not adjust the coils-to-flywheel magnets clearance, and the coils are rubbing on the magnets as they pass by. Move the coils back till they are flush with the machined edges on the posts upon which they sit.

And yes, "Slow" means idle unless you have the idle speed set so low that it stalls when you pull the throttle all the way back.
