35 hp gale swapping 28 hp recoil, is the comp release set up a good idea?

I am so close to being finished on my gale, only one screw left over. I bought a recoil off a 28hp johnson, it fits but is not drilled for the lever for the comp release. I could swap the upper housing from the old, but I'm afraid of having trouble with the spring. I pulled it a little and it fired. I only plan to use it for an emergency, like battery totally dead or starter quits. I have had 3 shoulder surgeries and I fall down as little as possible. As I get older, I try to get wiser. don't think it's happening. I think it is a good idea to have it on there because it keeps those ring gear teeth from cutting me so bad. another part I bought off the 28 was the carb. It fit and worked ok and only had a few differences, like only having 2 small holes in the top of what I would call the throttle bore. I switched back to the original 35 carb with a kit and new float in it because it kept dying, then I found the pulse hose was bad. My theory is more power with the 35 carb and better economy with the 28. So what would you do? leave the lever off or fool around with the recoil spring that seems in good shape. Also rope looks brand new.

I've started the Big Twin style motors with and without the compression release. Frankly, I don't know as it makes a whole lot of difference - they're a bear to pull over either way! Being that you would only be using it in an emergency in any case, I'd put the recoil that works on there and let it ride...

Stick with the 35hp carb - less chance of running lean and cooking the motor with the proper carb.

Thanks Chinewalker, will do as advised. I remember I could pull start it in 1971.
