I've so far put a waterpump, thermostat, and head gasket on this motor, flushed out the pipes and channels with water raised the water in the tank and thought it was fine. Tried running it with muffs and water seemed ok, put it in a bucket and wasen,t sure because this model does not have a tell tale.Thought it was ok took boat to water this morning and it still fried. When I took the head to the shop the mechanic said it was slightly warped in the middle but should be ok by tightening middle bolts first.Took leg of after our fishing non adventure and put hose on pickup tube and turn on water. The water was leaking out of the exhaust side cover and filled the bottom cylinder with water. Could the side cover cause this problem or would it be somthing else. I,ve spent hundreds on this motor and am almost out of ideas and close to broke. So any info would be great.
Thanks

Griffo.

Hi, Ho, Griffo,
What you describe is typical of having a hole in the water jacket around the motor somewhere. Usually this occurs around the thin metal jacket by the cylinders. It requires a strip down and replacement along with some other rebuilding as necessary. Sorry mate but if it's worth doing then it's worth doing well.
Ross.

It only fills up the cylinders when under full mains tap pressure other wise it starts first time every time and has heaps of compression.

Check the water deflectors in the block under the head gasket, they swell from age, and overheating, blocking water flow.
