I just wanted to thank all the pro's on this site for helping me with this project. I asked a ton of questions and tried to answere some others that I felt I might be able to contribte something. Attached are some links for photos of my motor and some before photo's of my new project: 1955 Johnson seahorse 25 hp

As far as the 33 goes I am just waiting for some decal paper to arrive in the mail. I am also having my brother cast some brass copies of the evinrude emblem to use instead of plastic. I have to finish installing the starter wiring as well.

I am looking forward to moving on the next one. Ronnie

what did you use for paint?

And how did you go about prep work for the paint? just sand and paint? or just rough it up?

Im planing on doing the same thing to my 10hp too. and just looking for pointers

Re: 33 evinrude restore complete

I bought the motor as a parts motor but decided I wanted to restore. First I did a compression test to make sure power head was not junk. Good even comp. on both cylanders, lots of parts missing and put together wrong so I decided to completely disassemble, taking many pictures as I went to make sure she went back together right and easy, one peice at a time I cleaned with solvents, soap and water then sanded with 220, and 400 grit paper. I used spray cans of self etching primer and in some cases I would use a high build primer after that to help smooth out pitted areas. on the flats I would use an orbital sander. for a finish I used multiple spray cans of Moellar and Tempo lacquer bought at west marine or boaters world, several coats. I reassembled as I went along using a wire wheel to clean bolts, a polishing wheel to make whatever parts weren't getting painted shine and aluminium welding rods and a grinding wheel to repair several broken parts. I replaced all wiring and restored all rubber seals and mouldings Many parts came from different motors and I even ordered stuff I could not find off of Ebay. Looking back this was not the Ideal motor to do this to, but I don't regret it. all toll I spent around a hundered bucks. I ran her in a tank today and after she was adjusted she purred. That really doesn't count for much till I get her wide open on the water, but I will tell you I enjoyed it and learned alot!! I am already elbow deep into my next one!. Good Luck with yours. Ronnie
