Hello,

I have an 9' inflatable pontoon fly fishing boat i recently bought. I have bought a 32lb thrust trolling motor for it. I had orignally bought the 685 kirkland deep cycle marine battery, but just returned it for it was leaking battery acid!

This battery is very heavy. I went into walmart and found this one here that states, on the battery itself for trolling motors.

http://www.walmart.ca/Automotive/Auto-Batteries/Lawn-amp-Garden/EverStart-Battery-U1-31AH

I beleive it is rated @ 31 amps/Hr for 20hr!

My question is two part.....

1. Can i use this battery for my 32lb thrust trolling motor. I beleive this motor will us no more than 30Amps/Hr anyway when opened up to 5th speed!

2. How do i attach my trolling motor battery lines to this battery? This battery has either a flat area to attach something to it or two screw holes. my motor has long cables with C style ends on them that would normally be tighted onto the nut and bolt of a regular marine battery.

I like this battery for it is about half the weight and size and will still last me over 10hrs, i am assuming, of none stop, max speed!

Thanks for your input in advance.

Sorry, but your interpretation is totally incorrect. This is a 31 amp-hour battery. That means (roughly) that you can draw 1 amp for 31 hours, or 10 amps for 3.1 hours or 31 amps for 1 hour. (To get amp-hours, you multiply amps times hours.) At full throttle, your motor will draw on the order of 30 amps (or more), thus you get 1 hour of run time. If it draws more current, the hours of run time will be even less. I suspect that time is not enough for you.

That's a dinky battery, looks to be a jetski start battery. It's 31AH rating is equal to; 31 amps for 1 hour or, 1 amp for 31 hours. I don't see an RC rating on this battery, but RC goes by a 25 amp load for so many minutes, a RC guesstimate for this battery would be around 60. So, no, that isn't the battery you are looking for.

Yep, you'll want a 24 or 27 series deep cycle battery to power that trolling motor. Deep cycles will give you power over longer periods of time. I currently use a Walmart 24 series(size) to power my 14ft. alumacraft from the transom. Good power- enough to run moderate to high speeds (3-5 forward) a minimum of 6 hrs without charging. I basically ran it Sat/Sun without trickle charging it and when I checked the battery with my portable gauge, I had 2/3 battery juice remaining. Mine is rated for 75 amp/hours.
