Hi new to the forum, I am deciding between buying a 1993 3055 bayliner ciera or a 1989 32' carver aft cabin both are in excellent shape and have twin engines the price is about the same between the two any ideas on which boat is better. Boat use and moorage is fresh water.
Thanks,

Probably whichever boat is in better condition would be your best bet. Have you looked at them yourself? Or just looked thru online pictures? Have you taken them on a sea trial? Boats of that vintage need to be physically inspected for structure that could cause you problems down the road. Goodluck!

Hi, and welcome to iboats.

What 90stingray said.

And tell us how they're powered. You want V-8's in that size boat- 6's will be underpowered. I'd also want to avoid any OMC outdrives or Ford-based engines. Neither has been supported since the late 1990's. Easy way to distinguish Ford from GM (preferred) V-8's is the distributor placement. GM put it at the back of the engine, Ford at the front.

Are you planning to have a professional survey and mechanical inspection done? Always a good idea on boats that are nearly 20 years old. When they were new, the Carver was by far the higher end boat, but that doesn't means squat if it's no longer mechanically and structurally sound.

I'd the Carver an express model, or the full aft cabin boat. Of its the full aft cabin boat, these are two very different boats. Personally I would go with the Bayliner, but that's simply from the layout standpoint. There are a lot of variables here. We would need more from you help out more.

Though only 2 feet these are very different boats. The 32 Carver Aft will be roomy and comfortable with a nice solon, though I hate the twin beds in the aft. The Bayliner 305 will be smaller. The mid cabin will be a big double which is nice. The bayliner will use less fuel and weigh much less.

Hi thanks for the response they are both 5.7l chevy's with merc outdrives on bayliner and screws on carver i will be getting a survey done on carver bayliner had one done a few months ago a came out excellent. I heard that the carvers had some blistering problems on the bottom ? also to trailer the carver from seattle to portland some one said you might have to take off the flybridge because it might be to high for overpasses ?
