Got a few questions about going to a 350.

Do they use the same spark plugs? Same Gap?

Flat tappet to Roller cam. Do I need a new Distributor gear like in automotive engines?

Re: 305 to 350 general engine questions

Had a post all typed out, clicked the wrong button with a stray finger and lost it. Here goes aqain.

Keep the same vintage (year) engine, and most things will be the same. You need a service manual for what every year 305 you now have to find out what changes.

For oil questions, post over in the Non repair IO forum.

They both use the same sparkplugs, Generally speakin'.......

'n as far as I know, the Distributer gear don't care what cam is in the block...
I've changed distributers between many motors, 'n never had a future issue with it's gear....

Generally speakin',... ;)

That must be a ford thing then. I know with a flat tappet cam in the ford engine they use a totally different gear material than the ones for the roller cams.

Thanks for the help!

Re: 305 to 350 general engine questions

The steel roller cam requires a brass or a "melonised" steel distributor gear, the fuel pump pushrod must also be changed, once again a brass tip or a cast iron rod. I researched all this last year when I did a cam swap. Comp cams site has a lot of good info.
