305 Merc Im New To The Merc Family

I Just Picked Up A Wellcraft Sunhatch With A 898 Merc 305 In It.... I Have Only Had Omc Stringer Drives And Ford Motors Mainly.... And Yes They Hold There Own Very Good Outdrives Never Had A Problem With Them..... But I Was Thinking Of Rebuilding The Motor Or Should I Go 350 And How Much H.p. Can Those Drives Handle Im Thinking Of Running Around 300 H.p. I Did It On My 76 Thunderbird Formula Stringer Drive And It Took It All. So Im Guessing The Merc Can Take It As Well Since Yall Say Merc Is Better Then Omc.... Please Help.

I don't remember saying that........I do say that Mercruiser is still a current viable company. OMC? they're gone.......more than 10 years now.

There's no real comparison.

Most Alphas are safe and reliable up to about 300 crankshaft HP.....you can go higher but the longevity suffers a little...;.
