Howdy, Shade tree.

What year is your engine?

Don't use starter fluid. It is very bad for 2 stroke engines. Use premix in a spray bottle.

If it will run with a prime, but not off of the carb you have a fuel supply problem. That means something between the tank and the carb throat is stopped up or leaking air.

Have you verified that the fuel is being pumped into the carb? When you cleaned the carb, did you use a wire or air pressure to clear every tiny passage?

Let us know. :)

I think the year of the engine is a 91 and i think the problem is a gasket leak in the bowl. because i got it running but only at high rpm's it won't idle so i also think it might be a timing problem.Let me know what you think and thanks for the reply.

Howdy, Shade Tree.

Misadjusted linkage and synchronization can certainly cause poor idle or no idle. You should check that out.

Failing that I suspect that the passage from the low speed jet into the carb throat is plugged. It is a very tiny hole that enters the throat just downstream of the throttle plate. Sometimes they get so gummed that you must run a strand of wire through to clear it.

Good luck. :)
