Will a 1956 30 hp Johnson driveshaft fit a 1957 35 hp? The reason is the 35 hp is a long shaft that I wish to convert to short shaft. I do have a short driveshaft from a 1956 30 hp, will it fit the 1957 35 hp? How about the shift rod will this have to be changed as well from long to short? I guess another question would be what other model years would fit the 1957 35 hp?

The shift rod needs to be shortened. If you've got nothing to loose, you could cut 5" off the one you have and carve a new groove into it so it'll fit the coupler. If you're careful, you can avoid disassembling the lower unit that way. Cut the remainder into 1-7/16" peices for shear pins. :)

The water tube ought to have a 5" extension on it. Simply remove & discard it.
You'll need a new, shorter bolt for the back of the lower unit. Again, 5" shorter than the one you've got.
Hope this helps!
