i have a healthy, active 3 yr old girl (will be 3 on nov 26th). this weekend, we were tailgating before a football game and she was sitting in the bed of my truck. i leaned over to kiss her, she moves, and tumbles off. it was nasty looking fall (i would have broken my neck), but being a kid, she was perfectly fine after a few kisses. on sunday morning, we went to breakfast and she was sitting in a regular chair (which she has done for almost a year now). out of nowhere, she falls off. again, she's fine after a little comforting. yeasterday afternoon, we are outside picking up leaves, and she falls over twice while leaning over to pick up the leaves.

something up with this, or just a coincidence? do children this age go through a balance issue? or should i be looking for something? all i can think of is possible ear infection, which is throwing her balance off. she seems perfectly healthy, i just seemed to notice all these events this weekend and it has me a little concerned.

thanks-

Personally, I would have her checked.

It could be just an inner ear upset/reset issue, but then again . . .

Yup, get it checked out, never know.

Either somehting is causing her to go off balance, like an ear infection starting, or.... Is she one of my kids that I don't know about? Cause sounds a lot like most of my days.

Inner ear infection would be my guess. Toddlers get them all the time.

You might want to take her to the docs for some ear drops and to be sure this is the problem.

Yes, get her checked out. One of my grandsons just went thru this.
He would get up from the couch and take a couple steps and hit the floor.
He had an inner ear infection.
They put some drops in his ears and gave him some antibiotics and he was fine in a week or so.

Re: 3 yr old - balance problems?

Many times kids have an underdeveloped tube between the inner ear and the outer ear that requires plastic tubes be inserted...These days it is not a huge deal, but get it checked out with a pediatric ENT specialist.

In my experience, a GP may or may not discover the problem, but an ENT specialist knows exactly what to look for. Of course not sure if it applies to your kid, but my youngest had them, and it made a world of difference for her.

Good luck.
