3 bank charger mounting

I bought a ProMariner ProSport 20, 3 bank 20amp charger today. I'm trying to figure out where to mount this in my Ranger 373v.

To me the likely space is in the battery compartment/bilge area. The problem is the manual states, "Select a mounting location that allows for free air ventilation with a minimum of 8 inches of clear unobstructed space around and in front of the....charger." It also states to install it horizontally.

I think I've found a good place to mount this, by creating a bracket out of aluminum angle and basically hanging it from the deck ledge. There aren't any solid surfaces to mount to, but I think this will give a very solid mount to the unit. Air would be allowed to flow behind, by several inches, I have plenty of space in front of the unit and plenty of space to the right of the unit. The problem is this places it only about 4-6" from the deck lid, about 4-5" from one of the fuel tanks to the left and only about 1" above one of the trolling motor batteries.

Do these things get really hot or is this just an overprecaution?

I am trying to upload a few pics to help make sense of this....

Thanks

Yup -- that's were it goes, but mount it as high as possible.

After the edit, does all still seem good?? I just question why they say 8" on sides, front, etc.

The post got posted before I was finished typing, gotta love computers!!

If you only have a inch between top of batteries and charger won't that make getting to batteries difficult? I mounted mine on the side

The specified clearances are for air circulation. Yes, the units can get warm. Warm air rises and is replaced by cooler air. Leave the hatch open when the charger is plugged in.

stylesabu - I actually think I can slide the battery foward just enough to get it out, once I pull the battery in front of it. Can't really test until I mount it though. There's only about 1/2"-1" of battery edge that will be covered. I wish I had room elsewhere to mount it, I just can't find any.

silvertip - thanks for the help. I hate having to leave that hatch open when charging, but will do what I have to do. At home, no real biggy, but I'll be at a fishing tournament towards end of month and was hoping to leave the charger plugged in overnight. Kind of hate leaving the hatch open and unlocked while I sleep in a strange place. Probably ok, just one of those things. I'll keep an eye on it at home and see how it reacts. The compartment is pretty well ventilated and if I take the cover and cover it at night, I wouldn't feel as paranoid.....

Well, I hooked it up last weekend and tried it out. I was actually suprised at how warm it does get. The lid to the compartment will definately be left open while on the charger. To compensate for the theft concern, I took a piece of aluminum angle I had laying around and made a mounting bracket out of it and used pop rivets to hold it in place.
