I have an 84 omc that is overheating, new impeller in stringer outdrive. what do i check next??? also my outdrive trim quit working i got lucky and babied it home from the lake last weekend with it stuck down. I can hear a click when i flip the switch both up and down. Doesnt that mean the solenoid is trying to engage?? ive checked it with a volt meter and i have 12 volts to all solenoids. when i try to jump them with a screwdriver i get the same results. It has been acting up lately and finally just quite altogether? where is the trim motor located and is there anything else i can try before i sink MORE money into this thing?

also, i have an 83 omc that the hydrolic trim on the motor itself wont hold fluid. can you rebuild the hydrolic motor mounts or whats my options on that? thanks a lot.

My trim stopped working and I had a short in the inline fuse. Would be worth checking.

it is definitly a short. I just went out and checked the trim again and it went up but it wasnt wanting to. sounds like the short is in the back however? I know there are 5 solenoids on the motor. i know the back one is the ignition and im pretty sure the ones closest to the carb is for the outdrive trim??

From what I can remember there are 5 solenoids at the back of the engine. One for starter, one for tilt up, one for tilt down, one for trim up and one for trim down. I would disconnect battery first. Then I would clean the terminals. See if that helps.

re: overheating - try greasing the swivel bearing between the upper and lower gearcases (zerk inside the hole forward side of the drive just below the exhaust port)
Yes, selectrim mount rams can be resealed. All the seals are available from any Evinrude dealer. It's easy -procedure is in the OMC factory manual.
