I need to get to the bottom of my exhaust elbow to check on a leak. Can I just unbolt the motor (8" space in front) and move it forward or do I have to remove it from my boat.

There is a breather hole at the 12 o’clock position above the drive shaft. If the drive shaft bellows is leaking that is where the water will come from. It is not likely that the leak is the exhaust riser. To make sure run the engine on the trailer with a flush out, if the exhaust is leaking you will see the leak. If there is no water leaking then the bellows is the problem.

Do not move/remove the engine without removing the drive first.

I have already removed the outdrives. If my drive shaft bellow was leaking the grease would be milky. I have a closed cooling system and I have removed mid pipe assembly. Put water into the lower elbow and am getting water from the bottom of lower elbow where it meets the transom. When I put my boat into the water I started taking on water at this location. I'm thinking water is coming in from the idle port holes.

Sounds like the exhaust pipe. If moving the engine gives you access, then move it. If not, then it will need to be pulled from the boat completely.
