I have the great 3.7L 170hp 4 banger... It is running great but my outdrive was not shifting properly. I attained a slightly older alpha one outdrive from 1984. I installed it and noticed that the discharge water was mainly coming from the right side and a little whole below the water intake. The 87 was discharging water from both side the same amount without the little whole discharge....

I want to make sure that the cooling water system is the same and I will not damage the motor with too little coolant water... I know the 470 are high risk motors for damage when they get hot so I am being careful...

Also do people think is too hot for the 470.... mine is running around 165F....

Thanks,
Shawn

There should be no difference in the drives the way they mount. If the motors are different then the gear ratio will be different.120hp verses a 165hp.Or a V-8 the ratios will be different but will work. The performance will be different.J
