3.7 oil presure issue

Went out for a 4 hour cruise today. Oil presure seemed lower at the end of the tripp than when i started. At the end of the trip at idle i had very little presure registering on the gauge. At about 3000 rpm the gauge registered about halfway.
What are the symptoms of an oil pump going bad? Does this sound like a sending unit/gauge issue?

Thanks
WW

Re: 3.7 oil presure issue

Oil pump failure is rare. usually it's a main bearing or cam bearing or rod bearing issue that causes low oil pressure. Get a mechanical gauge and chek the pressure if you think it's low. Bear in mind as oil heats up it thins and pressure goes down. the weight of the oil is also a factor. The 3.7 experts should have more insight as those motors had issues in the cam area with water.
