Tried to start my 3.5 Tohatsu tonight and the rope couldn't budge it. Last ran it July of 2004. I was going to pull the plug and squirt in copious amounts of PB Blaster or some of this Blaster lawn mower tune up in a can to free it, but someone on the FAQ page recommended 2 stroke oil. Which would work better? I have only used it 2-3 times, and doubt the motor is fully broken in. I didn't think you had to fog 2 strokes. Any other hints?

Fill it with diesel and leave it for a couple of weeks then try again.

Don't forget to flush the diesel out before you try to start it.

2 strokes do need fogging.

I used PB Blaster and the Blaster tune up stuff. Filled up the cyclinder several times but it keeps running out one of the ports. I'll try to pull it through tomorrow. Is there a nut on top I can use to turn it? I don't want to pull the fly wheel.

Re: 3.5 Tohatsu frozen

I just resurrected my friend's 3hp Johnson dinghy motor from the same fate. It sat for two years and was frozen when he tried to pull the cord. I sprayed liberal amounts of PB Blaster into the cylinders, then started working the prop back and forth just a little at a time with very little pressure. It has no forward, neutral or reverse gears. After about 15 minutes of working it, it completely freed itself up, and runs well enough to get him out to his moored sailboat a couple times per week.

UPDATE: PbBlaster freed it after soaking for 2 days. Filled cylinder with oil, soaked for around 10 minutes, then poured out and tried to start. Won't start yet; plugs are probably fouled with all that oil. I think I broke the plastic prop trying to free it though.
