3.5 Nissan Outboard Runs Rich

After a rebuild my Nissan 3.5A 2 cycle seems to be running really rich. Oil is dripping out of the exhaust. I assume the mixture is adjusted by the snap ring in the pin that runs thru the center of the carb. Where should this be adjusted.
Thanks for any help or other ideas.

There aren't any snap rings in a 3.5 B carburetor. The is a flat metal spring on the needle. That can be placed on a several different places on the needle to adjust the fuel flow.

Thanks for the reply, does the flat metal spring adjust lean or rich, and if so which way do you go to lean it out.
Thanks

Up makes it leaner....Having to adjust that clip is very rare. I would look for another reason for running rich first.

The carburetor on that motor is about as simple as one can possibly be. I would remove it from the motor, remove the float bowl and check for a speck of grit in the float valve. That would keep the valve from fully closing. Adjust the float by turning carb upside down and bending the float hinge until it is parallel to the carb casting. I took a wad of varnish out of my float bowl about the size of an acorn last summer. That sure made it run rich.
