I've got a 3.5hp Mercury that I recently got given to me because the PO couldn't get it running properly.
I started by checking compression and it was good and then spark and that was good.
Then I took the carb off and found it was all plugged up really bad with white powder from old gas.
Everything was plugged up!
I managed to get it all cleaned up and have even got it running but the engine won't idle. It always wants to start revving up on its own.
I've looked at the parts breakdown on the carb and there are 2 different carbs for these engines, depending on the serial number.
I've got the earlier model OR231019 from 2007.
In the parts breakdown it shows the #4 pilot jet to be on the side of my carb which it is.
In the parts breakdown for the later models it shows the pilot jet #4 on the face of the intake.
However, on my carb there is a hole on the face of carb and I can blow air thru the hole. I'm wondering if this hole is supposed to be plugged, because my pilot jet is on the side of the carb.
I hope this make sense to somebody.
Thanks!
