3.0lx mercruiser pops and backfires through carb ????

Hello,
I am new to the site and i need some help!!!I have a 1995 searay with the 3.0 lx motor that runs excellent ,,,,but when i stab it real quick it backfires and hesitates even with no load !!! I set the timing and even tried to give it a little advance but no luck !!! it has new plugs ,cap looks brand new , i have run a few tanks of gas through it but still happens!! Like i said it runs excellent when your going and doesnt backfire if the rpms are up and then stab it!! I have checked the accelerator pump in the carb when the engine was off and it seems to be working well !!! Any ideas???

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

It's goin' Lean...
It's probably crud inside the carb, a rebuild usually cures it...
Have ya checked, 'n changed the fuel Filters,..??

Might adjust the idle mixture screws in a bit, but sounds like the carb.

Well thank you!!
I have not checked the fuel filter yet but that is the next job, i pulled the throttle cable off the carb and sheared the bolt off the lever 52..00 to replace !! so im gonna order that part a new filter and base gasket all at once. next year i will rebuild or replace the carb!!! My buddy at the speed shop said it was going lean also !! Thank you very much
