3.0L Mercruiser Alpha One dieing when put in gear

Here are the symptoms. I have an 88 Glastron with a 3.0L alpha I. I went through and fixed some wiring that the previous owner had creativelyhacked and spliced. I went to fire it up and it did not have any issues. When the rpms settled to about 800 I tried to put it into gear and when I did it died almost instantly forward and reverse. When in neutral I pushed in the shift interrupter and it killed the engine so it is working but when I put it into gear the roller part of the switch makes contact (which it seems like it is supposed to) the engine dies. Any input would be appreciated.

Does the prop rotate? Sounds like it is seized and stalls the engine when put in gear forward/reverse.
