So I have a 3.0l merc, in a 1996 Monterrey 180 boat. Bought the boat from an owner, looks like it hasn't been run in 2 years but the previous owner had receipts of having the marina regularly maintaining the boat and winterizing it. I went to try to start it today, but it wont even attempt to start. Pulled the plugs and they are dry, but getting spark and it has plenty of compression. Pulled the top of the carb, also dry. Tank has fuel, and it looks like they bypassed the fuel/water separator and put in their own small fuel filter that I do see gas in but only half full (it lies on its side). Why do you think its not getting gas? What should I check/do first?

Ill check, but I dont think there is a fuel pump on the 3.0l? I am probably wrong, I just didnt see one when I was examining the engine yesterday. Is it in the carb? And where is this anti siphon valve? The fuel tank has plenty of gas...I checked.

but I dont think there is a fuel pump on the 3.0l?

Every 3.0L has a fuel pump, all are in the same place, right next to the distributor.

Just from you questions, I think you need to find a certified Mercruiser shop to work on your engine.

How do I check if the fuel pump is working? Can I just pop off the line on the inlet and put my finger there to see if it has suction? Just wondering how others check it..

Calm down, nobodys upset, we check fuel pumps using pressure gauges, fingers arent reliable enough.
start by removing the rubber fuel line at the pump and plugging in a remote tank.narrows down the fuel delivery issue.
