Fuel pump has gone out in 1985 OMC Sterndrive, its the In-Line GM 4 cylinder motor. The fuel pump is mechanical and is a carter 2, with the filter bowl on top. My question is should I replace with the same pump which is around 120.00 new, or do I put an electric pump in?

If I go electric what do I do with the hole where the other pump mounted? Also how do I figure out the flow and pressure that will be needed with a new electric pump, manuel gives me no information.

Thanks.

A universal electric marine fuel pump looks relatively cheap and easy to install, but you guys say go with the mechanical and thats what I ordered, but out of curiosity why not go to an electric pump?

Re: 3.0L GM Fuel Pump

Because mechanical fuel pumps have fed carbs reliably and efficiently for over 100 years ?
Reason enough for me, the fact that it does not consume power or have wiring and switches is an added bonus to me.

If my alternator died on the water I think my large battery would power the boat for 8 hours, with an electric fuel pump that time would be cut by half.
Plus once you figure in the wiring and oil pressure safety switch that "cheap" electric fuel pump is the same price as the right mechanical pump.
