I just got my 72 Mercruiser 3.0L parts (block, pistons, head, etc) back from the machine shop, WOO HOO, time to start on the assembly. As I started to install the rear cam bearing,,, it fell into the journal Upon inspecting the old cam bearings, I found one of them (the rear one) was 2.010", while the others were 2.000",,, +- a few .001's.
This was a virgin engine that had never been rebuilt, so I'm thinking GM oversized the rear cam bearing by .010 because it was out of tolerance. Maybe the rear one is supposed to be oversized and I got the wrong cam bearing set?
Anyone heard of this before, seems kind of odd to me.
