I have a 2003 Glastron SX195 with the Volvo penta 3.0l with the sx drive. The last time I had the boat out I had noticed that it seemed as if the exhaust was coming out directly from the transom and also some from the prop. When I got home I inspected the exhaust bellows and it looked alright. Since its the end of the season I went to winterize the boat and I was running some antifreeze through the system and I noticed with the boat not running the antifreeze was leaking from the transom plate. When the boat runs on a hose I can see water and hear the exhaust coming from there too. Is there a seal that may be bad between the inner and outer transom plates? does the engine need to be removed to access it? No water ever leaks into the boat sitting or running. In the beginning of the year I did get the outdrive stuck on something in the river. It came free but chopped the prop up a bit, maybe that may have led to the issue?

That's completely normal. The exhaust is coming out the exhaust relief ports.

Water should pour out of the bottom of the transom plate, and also drip down from the exhaust bellows--they have holes in them.
Some have tiny holes, and other bellows have actual "slits" about 3/8" long.
Water also sprays from 4 "jets" (two holes on each side of drive, below where lower unit of drive attaches to upper unit of drive).
Exhaust comes out prop (of course), and two exhaust outlets (one on each side) near the "jets" mentioned above.
Those four jets and two holes are hard to see; you have to be looking from down by the prop to see them.

Bruce also mentions an exhaust relief port at the bottom of the transom plate. I am not as familiar w/ that one, but have my drive/engine completely out and apart right now....so I'm curious and may take a look tomorrow. I thought that hole was the drain tube that runs from my power steering cooler and straight out the transom....but he has way more experience than I do:joyous: so I would go with what he says.

If you're getting soot all over your transom, then you're running too rich.
But seeing anti-freeze pouring out of there would be completely normal.

Great News. I previously had a mercruiser alpha one and I always saw the water coming from the prop only. I just wanted to make sure I resolved any problems before the next season starts up. Now I just need to get that prop fixed. Thanks a lot guys the information is very much appreciated!!!

Mercruiser has the same relief ports but they may be smaller. When you are in the water, you will typically never see the exhaust exit at the prop.
