3.0 Mercruiser Exhaust Question...

Hello everyone. I'm new to these forums, so bare with me. Here's my question...

I have a brand new 2004 Chaparral 180 SSi with a 3.0 Mercruiser and the Alpha one outdrive. I haven't had a chance to get the boat in the water yet, but I was able start it up in the yard. My question is this: Where should the exhaust and water exit from. My prop looks like the type you would have if the exhaust exited through the prop. However, it appeared (from inside the boat leaning over the back), that the exhaust and water was exiting from the underside of the Gimbal housing. At least I think that is called a Gimbal housing, this is my first I/O.

Re: 3.0 Mercruiser Exhaust Question...

Merc I/O drives will flush out the cooling water and exhaust from both side(s) of the lower section of Gimbal Housing plate and from the center of the propeller. If you increase the idle a bit - you'd see.

Ahh, thanks for the response. I wondered if that was the case, but with no break-in on the engine yet, I didn't want to increase above idle.
