I'm in the process of winterizing my boat and was wondering what type of oil I can use in my crankcase? I used Merc. oil last year, but I'm about 75 miles away from any marine dealers and was wondering what a safe alternitive might be? I almost never operate the boat in air temps. below 55 dg. Far. And I average about 30 to 50 hours a season. My manual confuses me on this. Any help's appreciated. Goeb

Re: 3.0 Merc oil type?

SAE30 is the way to go.What I usually do is drain the old oil just prior to winterizing and refill with any old oil that happens to be on sale that week.As long as it sits with fresh oil over the winter it will be ok.Then just prior to launching in the spring I change the oil again and put in the good stuff. It is a little extra work but the motor appreciates it.(it tells me so every time i turn the key) Charlie
