Finally i have the time to get to the motor on this boat. The issue that i am seeing is the water being vented out of the sterndrive, that is there are two vent's that water can port from and only one is venting. (upper unit)

I assume this mean's the water shutter has degraded and somehow found it's way into the port and if this is so could it possible to just reverse or back flush the part out?

Well im asking i may as well ask this also, this gen ll supposedly has a permalube shaft in it. Does one just check for roughness, can one lube the knuckle's (used to be able to put a zerk in them year's ago)Is there any means of testing for failure or do you just let them start to make a racket indicating failure?

I have a 95 3.0 and on the muffs water usally just comes out the starbord port :)

If the have not gotten WET and feel smooth they should be fine

The littel things you see on the joints can be removed and replaced with grease fitings

tommays

Those holes are just idle exhaust reliefs. They do nothing but prevent the back pressure on the exhaust system at idle so the engine will breath properly. You have a 4 cylinder with the exhaust on one side, the same transom shield is used for V6 and V8 engines with a pipe on both sides. In other words, you are worrying about something you shouldn't be. Go boating.

What tommays said on the ujoints.
