I started up my boat and noticed water leaking from the flywheel cover. I pulled of the cover to find a 3 inch in diameter brass fitting to be laying at the bottom of the flywheel. Any idea what it is?

Sounds like a core or welch plug.

Sounds like it got pushed out most likely during a freeze.

The boat was not winerized and I just got it a few weeks ago. It is a brass cap. Do i need to pull the engine and flywheel to replace it?

Hopefully that is the only damage from not being winterized.

After searching for a while, I found a post that explained it. Any possible damages that this could cause? I had to get the starter repaired because of water getting inside it. Other than that, I dont see any other leaking.

Once you install a NEW core plug (Don't even think about trying to reuse the old one) pressure test the block. Chances are the block is cracked right behind the exhaust manifold, and possibly inside to the crankcase, at which point you need a new engine.

Thanks for the advise. I only paid a couple hundred for the boat and the trialer and outdrive is well worth it.

Like mentioned, you will more than likely find that the engine block is cracked. Here's where that plug goes:
