My 1987 bayliner capri with a 3l omc I/o makes a clicking noise click clack click clack at 2500 rpm and up. I'm not sure what it is and I can't duplicate it on land. It only happens under load. Any thoughts? I'm kinda thinking the valves need to be adjusted.

Noises have always been difficult to find and even harder to explain. Might be your U-joints or maybe a pre-ignition ping. Have you checked timing, does it do when you turn more then straight, or does the noise increase as you increase speed?
